I am a native English speaker, born and raised in the UK and now based in London.

I have become fluent in Spanish through advanced studies and extensive experience of travel, work and life in Spain and across Latin America. As a result, I have a thorough understanding of the language, its variants and the different cultural contexts of the countries in which it is spoken.

Studying language
Getting to grips with the intricacies of the Spanish language is something I have been fascinated by since I started studying it at school.

I took it on to university, which gave me the opportunity of a year spent partly in Barcelona, partly in Honduras, working at becoming fluent and discovering two very different environments where vastly different Spanish is spoken.

First-hand experience
After graduating, I spent time South America with the aim of becoming truly fluent and acquiring as deep a possible understanding of the language. My travels through Ecuador, Bolivia and Uruguay, and time spent working in Peru and Argentina, exposed me to the diversity of meaning and vocabulary in the Spanish language spoken from one country to another.

I ended up living and working in Buenos Aires, which left me passionate about language and cross-cultural communication, so I returned to the UK to study a Masters in translation and editing.

In the heart of London
I first worked as a Correspondence Officer for the Minister of State for Public Health, liaising with policy teams to write, edit and proofread ministerial correspondence with MPs across a broad portfolio of public health policy areas, including HIV and AIDS, and global health.

From there, I moved into membership and communications at Bond (the UK network for international development), working on membership marketing, recruitment and member services as well as communications, publications, and events for a wide range of international organisations.  I also worked on business development, including advertising and sponsorship opportunities for suppliers to the UK international development sector, producing media packs and conference brochures, and supporting the coordination of exhibitions.

I am now a freelancer translator and copyeditor based at The Hub in central London (Islington).
