I am a native English copyeditor and translator, born and raised in the UK, and based in London.

As a fan of plain English, I am passionate about helping you to communicate as effectively as possible. Whether that is reworking something you’ve had translated, or editing something originally written in English, I will make sure your communications are fit for purpose.

My focus is on clarity, impact and making sure your voice is heard loud and clear. And I make sure that is always done in keeping with your house style.

My approach

There are any number of ways to translate or to word any given sentence. I take the time to find out what you need to achieve, and how you like to communicate with your audiences, to make sure we get it right.

I take a collaborative approach: asking questions, flagging any ambiguities and pointing out where there may be several possible solutions.

But above all, I love working with people who care about quality and see the value in communicating with people effectively – in language they understand.

Learning Spanish

I studied Spanish language and literature at university. But I have also lived and worked in Spain and Latin America. As a result, I have a thorough understanding of both the language and the cultural contexts of the countries in which it is spoken.

Highlights include living in Spain (Barcelona), Honduras (Tegucigalpa), Peru (Huancayo) and Argentina (Buenos Aires). I have also travelled in Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Bolivia and Uruguay.

In the heart of London

I started out as Correspondence Officer for the Minister of State for Public Health at the Department of Health in London.

It gave me the opportunity to liaise with policy teams to write, edit and proofread ministerial correspondence with MPs. This covered a broad portfolio of public health policies, including HIV and AIDS, and global health.

After that, I moved into membership and communications at Bond – the UK network for international development.

There, I was responsible for membership marketing, recruitment and renewals. Another aspect of the job was helping to produce communications, publications and events aimed at a wide range of international organisations.

I also worked on business development, including advertising and sponsorship opportunities for sector suppliers. As part of that, I was responsible for producing media packs and brochures for conferences and exhibitions.

As a freelance copyeditor and translator, I am now based at a coworking studio in north London.

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. I also have a Master’s degree in Translation and Professional Language Skills.

I edit content to help you maximise impact. Tell me what you need.
